PETRIFIED FOREST NATIONAL PARK
PETRIFIED FOREST NATIONAL PARK
Nestled in northeastern Arizona, Petrified Forest National Park is a beautiful landscape and fascinating natural wonder that dates back to the Late Triassic period, over 200 million years ago. The park showcases extensive deposits of petrified wood, ancient forests transformed to mineral and stone through petrification.
The park is filled with educational experiences and archeological sites, including the ruins of Puebloan villages and fascinating petroglyphs. You’ll find two visitor centers within the park that help gain an understanding of the geological and cultural history of the region.
One of the most stunning areas of the park is the Painted Desert, a vast expanse of sedimentary rock formations. The striated hills create a colorful collage of red, orange, and purple hues during the shifting daylight sun. A similar phenomenon occurs withing the bentonite hills of the Blue Mesa region.
Whether you’re a photography enthusiast, geology buff, or avid hiker, a visit to Petrified Forest National Park is sure to offer a captivating journey through nature and history.
